PRESENTAZIONE \/ PRESENTATION
<\/u><\/strong>I am Seagull \u00e8 un film documentario che evoca il celebre collettivo teatrale americano The Cechov Project. Il progetto consiste in un evento spettacolare, coinvolgente e aperto creato da Brian Mertes e Melissa Kievman. Per sedici anni consecutivi, attori, designer, musicisti e registi si sono riuniti  a met\u00e0 agosto per un ritiro a 30 miglia da New York City. L\u00ec, cercano di mettere in scena un\u2019opera teatrale di Anton Cechov. L\u2019ambientazione \u00e8 una fattoria del 1805 di propriet\u00e0 dei produttori che corrisponde alle impostazioni bucoliche della tenuta di campagna di molte delle opere pi\u00f9 famose di Cechov. Il risultato \u00e8 una performance site specific per i membri della comunit\u00e0 che inizia nel pomeriggio e finisce dopo il tramonto, messo in scena in tutta la casa e dintorni Tutte le mani e i cuori si uniscono per creare una performance di dodici ore che avviene per  un solo giorno<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come il progetto stesso, il film I AM A SEAGULL dissolve i confini tra pubblico e performer, rappresentazione e realt\u00e0. Vita e prove si fondono in questo ritratto della produzione del 2014 di The Seagull. Il testo di Cechov \u00e8 incarnato da una manciata di attori di New York mentre convergono in un rifugio in riva al lago. Attraverso la giustapposizione di fasi di prove, performance dal vivo e puro cinema, questo film cattura l\u2019idealismo, le contraddizioni e l\u2019istinto grezzo che alimenta la stessa teatralit\u00e0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am a Seagull<\/em>a hybrid documentary film that evokes celebrated American theatre collective, The Chekhov Project. The Project consists of an annual, immersive, open-frame performance event created by Brian Mertes and Melissa Kievman. For sixteen years running, New York. actors, designers, musicians and directors gather in mid-august for a retreat 30 miles from New York City. There, they attempt to stage a play by Anton Chekhov. The setting is an 1805 farmhouse owned by the producers that matches the bucolic country estate settings for many of Chekhov\u2019s most famous plays. The result is an annual one-time, site-specific performance for community members that begins in the afternoon and ends after sundown, staged throughout the house, property and environs All hands and hearts come together to create a twelve-hour performance that happens over a single day.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like the project itself, the film, I AM A SEAGULL dissolves boundaries between audience and performer, representation and reality. Life and rehearsal blend together in this portrait of The Project\u2019s 2014 production of The Seagull. Chekhov\u2019s text is embodied by a handful of actors from New York City as they converge in an upstate lakeside retreat. Through juxtaposing phases of rehearsal, live performance and pure cinema this movie captures the idealism, contradictions and raw instinct that fuels theatre-making itself.<\/span><\/p>\n
